I feel as if estate sales aren't pushed enough in the frugal community as an easy means to furnish your home or purchase other items that would otherwise be expensive.
I'm twenty-one and still living with my parents, but I've bought most of the furniture in my room, including: drawers, cabinets, chair, and a book case for under $100 in total. The quality of the furniture is also typically higher than what you would find in a typical store because most of the families that host estate sales live in affluent neighborhoods. I look forward to buying silverware and other necessities from estate sales in the future once I graduate and move out.
Going to these estate sales is also a good way to make a little extra money on the side. For example, just today, I purchased nearly $1000 worth of books for $50. Although this margin is atypical, attending these regularly usually leaves me with $50 to $100 dollars more in my pocket by just spending a few hours on the weekend with friends or family walking around nice homes and buying items I know I can put to use or sell for more.
