I know Hondas and Toyotas are usually recommended, but there aren't any in my limited price range. I do not intend to have this car for a terribly long time (1 year, maybe 3 with grad school). I don't drive very far distances (I've put 4K miles on a 125cc scooter in the past two years) and I really only drive around town with minimal highway time. I am good with fixing things on my own using YouTube and I am prepared to keep up on maintenance in this way.
I am currently looking at an automatic 2008 Hyundai Accent GS with 108k miles on it. The dealer (Carmax) is asking $7k for it. I know that this vehicle isn't worth near that much and I'd like to talk them down to $3.5 or 4K final cost (including dealer fees).
The vehicle is currently in a lot about 2 hours away, however they will transfer it to a lot within 40 minutes of me for free. What should I look for when I go see it? What should I do to prepare before hand? Do you have any negotiation tips or techniques?
Thank you for your help!
