I've searched rather a lot and found a) a lot of information assuming the battery is still in the car and the charging is to be done via the cigarette lighter: and b) very contradictory blogging about whether the laptop's inverter can handle the power coming off the battery, whether a separate inverter would be required, etc.I don't know anything about electrical engineering but I'm handy enough with the tools I expect to be required.I'm only interested in doing this on a shoestring budget: I want to spend two weeks camping and have some capacity to recharge my laptop (and from there my phone). So a short-term, disposable solution is fine, but I need to know the basic requirements for ensuring my MacBook isn't damaged, and the minimum I've gathered from my research is that simply grounding the cable and connecting the leads to the positive & negative heads on a car battery will result in over-hearing the inverter built into the MacBook chargerWe're talking a 2015 MagSafe cable, incidentally. As this is a one-time use application (I'm in Sri Lanka and want to conclude my trip on a solo camp in the mountains), I'm hoping to achieve this in a nearly /r/diwhy fashion.Solar solutions aren't in the budget, especially given my location: think basic electrical goods.Advice--including "don't do this, you will certainly destroy your laptop" is all welcome.Final note as to why I want to do this is that I'm a freelance developer who's running out of cash and a big fan of nature. I have gear for sleeping and surviving, so if I could work whilst on my retreat, this would be an ideal way to both decompress whilst remaining in touch with clients (I have a satellite router, so that covers the internet bit).Edits: typos and grammar via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2oXSWZ2
