Today my son had throat infection. We took him to hospital with a mild fewer. They treated him at Emergency. He got an antibiotic injection, spent 1 hour in a room while they gave him IV. A doctor visited him before and after.

The whole experience reminded me a memory.

4 years ago exactly same thing happened to us while we were students in US. Visited Emergency unit for my son's throat infection with a mild fewer. Got antibiotic shot and IV. Stayed in a room for an hour. Visited by an American doctor before and after.

The hospital in America sent a bill around $3500.00 (no insurence). The hospital in my third world country billed us ZERO saying gov. will pay it (again no insurence).

The quality of the hospitals are almost similar, the one in my country is only slightly smaller in size since it is at a very busy location in the heart of a major city.
