Baby wipes are useful. You can use them to wipe babies, to wipe your own bum, or to clean your bathroom, kitchen, or house.
If you live in the US or Canada, you can buy a major national brand: Huggies or Pampers. Or you can go with other options. This post tells you about some of these other options.
The store-brand wipes manufacturers
I was wondering which manufacturers make which wipes. Here's some information.
Each store brand of wipes is produced and packaged by an outside manufacturer.
In the US, the these manufacturers include:
-
Rockline Industries.
- Their wipes are widely sold. They make about 20 different stores' house brands. (Source.) I've tried the wipes, and they worked fine. This newspaper article discusses their safety.
-
Nice-Pak Products.
- They manufacture store-brand wipes for Costco (Kirkland Signature), Target (Up & Up), CVS, and BJ's Wholesale Club. (Based on this source.)
-
Nutek Disposables.
- They manufacture store-brand wipes for Family Dollar, Walgreens, and certain other retailers.
If you want, over time, you can try different brands of wipes and decide which you prefer.
How to make your own
Other options might include:
-
Cotton wool plus water. (This combination is commonly used in Britain.)
-
Paper towels plus water.
You may need to use good, thick, soft paper towels. Poor-quality paper towels might not work well at all.
Don't store wet paper towels away for future use. Tons of germs could grow on the paper towels while they're sealed away. (Moisture can help germs to grow.)
Extra tips
-
After your baby makes pee, there's no need to wipe. Urine is sterile.
-
Use wet wipes before their expiry date. If you buy any of the kinds of wipes mentioned in this post, they contain a preservative which helps to keep germs from growing; but this preservative doesn't last forever.
