I have currently a pair of hair clippers/beard trimmer in need of repair. The wire leading into it is loose and it only works when held at a particular angle. I also go through a pair of cheap earbuds every six months or so.

I was wondering if maybe I should buy a soldering iron and solder to fix the clippers and future ear bud breaks--and perhaps other things--but I don't know what is decent and whether it's really worth it for the long haul. I don't have any real desire to tinker with electronics, but do hate to waste things (both for frugality and just dumping more crap into the world).

Worth it? If so, what's the cheapest soldering iron and supplies I could get that would still be usable?
