I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit, maybe r/wallstreetbets is more fitting. My dad is a very successful businessman/ entrepreneur who has run pharmacy and fitness center chains. He recently came to me saying he is very confident Malls are going to slowly disappear due to a lot of factors, but mainly the emergence of Amazon. He has never been really interested in trading or shorting anything, he just has someone handle his liquid cash. But that being said, I am wondering if you guys know of any specific instruments to go about this. I know we can just short REITS but that wouldn't bring much gain. Essentially, he believes the owners of the real estate will begin defaulting on their mortgages. Are there any derivatives to take advantage of this play? Similar to shorting CDOs and housing mortgages in 2008.
