I usually have to buy kid-sized clothing--boys husky jeans, for example--but retailers like to assume that buyers will grow out of such clothes and don't need them to be durable.

I need pants that will hold up to the rigors of working in construction (carpentry, specifically) and that come in sizes small enough that there isn't too much excess fabric (about a 27.5" waist, 27" inseam; I can get pants hemmed or tuck them into my work boots if necessary). Bonus points for cargo pants, but jeans work just fine.

I currently wear Lee jeans but they aren't exactly built to last in my experience. Originally I planned on trying out a pair of Carhartt pants, but then I started looking into options with more pockets. I've heard good things about 5.11--I also own a Rush 12 backpack and swear by it so far--but it seems that the clothes aren't as BIFL as they claim. The only 5.11 men's pants that come in a size I could MAYBE fit are the TDU/Taclite TDU, and I doubt the women's pants would be cut right for my body type.

Any advice appreciated.

EDIT: I've also looked at Duluth Trading Co., but they definitely cater to larger men than I.
