We're moving in a month or so, and I currently use and love our cabinet-mounted Black and Decker Spacemaker Optima. But! I don't know what the life on the thing is, and from the looks of it, it must be nearing at least fifteen or twenty years. I don't know if we'll be taking it, since it might be near the end of its life, and I'm not sure I want to be drilling holes in new cabinetry.
I've been searching this sub, and the consensus seems to be SwingAWay for manual openers (aka EZ Duz It, nowadays). For electric, it's Cuisinart or go manual. Does that sound about right?
I'd like either an electric or a good manual (I've had shoddy ones, which is why I'm torn about leaving our electric one behind). Not mounted, not smooth edge, and I'm willing to pay up to $20-30 for a good one. I could go higher, if it's for an excellent reason, but this is a can opener we're talking about.
Also, can someone explain why manual is considered better than electric? We had a manual opener when I was a child (all I remember is it looked like a normal opener, all metal except rubbery red handle covers), and it worked great.
Thank you!
