For some background:
I'm following the beaten path and want to pick up some Red Wings, I simply can't find anything that compares in the UK (sorry Dr Martens).
I've specifically been looking at either:
RW Iron Ranger 8085 <--- strangely, not available in UK RW Blacksmith 3343 <--- currently preferred
The £250 ($312 US) price tag from the London store is a bit of a sting when I've seen many of our cousins on the other side of the pond picking them up for £120 ($150 US) or less.
I've also noted that there is a better selection of model and colourways available from the US, as opposed to our London UK store (who also seem incapable of answering their customer telephone and lacklustre when on the off chance they do).
In case anyone in wondering why I don't order directly from the US, I did a calculation yesterday on import tax/duties buying new from US and shipping to the UK, and the boots came to a whopping £340 ($425). When it gets to that sort of price tag I'm sorry to say I don't get how high quality your boots are.
The strange thing about this import tax/duty is that to my understanding it's only that expensive if the item is paid for at full price. If the item's retail value is less then approximately £120 it is stripped of most of the fees.
TL;DR
So my questions:

Has anyone used a contact in the US to ship over Red Wings without having to pay the extortionate import tax/duty? I have family in the US which I'm sure would be happy to help,

Has anyone had experience of picking up RWs on sale in the UK? If so, was it a rarity or is there some website or something I'm missing out on?
