Let me preface this by saying I am no expert, however, I have been able to go to Orlando and hit a lot of parks for under $3,000 each year for eight days 7 nights. We are a family of four with two adults and two children.
If you are interested in going to Orlando on a budget, you might find some of this information well suited for you. What I did, was shop for airline tickets first. I fly from Minneapolis to Orlando Airport at about $250 to $350 a ticket. Last year I picked up an airline credit card and accrued 40000 bonus points which equaled $400 off this year's tickets. Shop around for different airlines and different dates as prices can vary dramatically depending on dates.
After you have decided on Airline and dates, check out some timeshare promotional resorts. In the Orlando area here are some ideas; Westgate, Silver Lakes Resort, Wyndham. You will have to attend a timeshare promotion for cheap accommodations at these locations but they are easy to get through. My family and I have done quite a few in the last few years and have been able to walk away each time. Timeshares are for sale on eBay for a penny so you will not be tempted to buy their $15,000 package because you will be smart enough to know that you can buy it for pennies on the dollar on eBay. Also by going to some timeshare promotions seminars you can get tickets to Disney World, Universal, SeaWorld, excetera. Use these to your advantage.
Going to timeshare promotional meetings can be time-consuming so get there early and do it within your first few days of arriving. What you can expect from the timeshare promotional meeting is breakfast, some small talk, and then typically a tour of the kind of accommodations they're offering you, and then they sit down and talk price with you. Stick to your guns. Do not let them think you have ANY interest in buying a timeshare. Once they realize you are not interested and you are definitely not there to purchase a timeshare they will try and get rid of you as fast as they can so they can move on to the next victim.
These tactics have worked great for me over the last three years.
Last year our cost was $800 for airline, $800 for accomadations and $1300 for theme parks (4 tickets to Walt Disney x3 days and Universal x 2 days).
