After working at a mid-size consulting firm for about 7 years, I think I will be getting laid off. I believe this was politically motivated as I have only received positive feedback in all of my reviews.
Out of nowhere, I was told that my skill set needs to be improved and I need to come up with a 30 day plan to resolve the issue. Without going into the details, I believe that this claim has little merit, and I have pretty convincing evidence to prove that my skill set is best in class.
It seems that they are trying to build a case to fire me so that they can have more leverage during the severance negotiation.
I'm mid-level, but I have had access to a lot of confidential information from our clients. My annual compensation is in the range of $100k-$200k.
Based on historical actions of the firm, this seems to be the formula for how they fire someone. I am wondering if anyone has any advice or tips about what I can do to maximize my severance package?
EDIT: I think I may have some negotiating power in this situation because: 1) I hold non-public information for publicly traded companies 2) I received notice of the 30 day plan after I inquired whether I could be eligible for a promotion (this was a peaceful, non-confrontational request). So, this seems like a retaliatory action.
