I walked into a Chase branch to clarify some issues on my banking statements, and I noticed a big queue to get the Chase Sapphire Reserve card (today being the last day). Peer pressure kicked in (I have only one Discover card for the last 3 years) and I thought what the heck, let me also jump in. And damn, I got instantly approved and HAD to take up the card. All was well until I reached home and the realities of the 4k minimum spend kicked-in.

I took a look at the wiki on /r/churning and have been searching online, but most of the methods described don't work for me (as a single, frugal guy whose housing agency does not accept credit cards for rent, whose car loan does not accept credit cards for payments, etc.).

I lead a pretty frugal life (eat at home due to dietary restrictions, don't spend too much on shopping), so it's going to be ideal to bump up my lifestyle just to meet the minimum spend.

Apart from the usual stuff like:

  • Picking up the tab for friends when we go out.
  • Paying mobile phone and internet bills.
  • Paying car insurance up-front.
  • Opting for cashbacks whenever I go shopping for groceries (does this even count)?
  • Gift cards on Amazon, CostCo, Target.

Are there any other, obvious, easy and preferably penalty-free ways that I could use to meet the $4k minimum spend? I am beginning to regret my impulsive decision and looking for advice.
