I just spent $10,000 on Visian Lens implants to correct my vision even though I didn't necessarily need it. I figured people on here might have some interesting things to say about that.
Deets: I did not "need" the surgery as glasses corrected my vision to near 20/20 (always had trouble with glare and "stars"). I cannot wear contacts long-term due to a rare eye disorder called Keratoconus (which also prohibits me from getting laser corrective procedures like Lasik and PRK), as well as dry eyes. I am able to use single-wear contacts for short periods, but have always had problems with them due to an astigmatism in my left eye.
In theory, I would have likely spent $300 every two years on new glasses and something like $80 a year on contacts. I am 24 years old now, and am still likely to need readers around the age of 50 due to astigmatism. There is a small chance I may also need additional procedures to correct the keratoconus (typically rigid contacts are the preferred treatment). So over the course of the next 26 years I would've spent around $6k on corrective eye wear IF I don't have too much trouble from keratoconus.
The way I figured, I sacrificed $4k for a good chance at perfect and unassisted vision for 26 years. To me, freedom from glasses and contacts is priceless.
