Hi guys, I'm new to Reddit so excuse me if I haven't done enough digging or there is something already out there.
So I'm 19 years old and I'm from the UK. I left school with decent A-levels and bagged myself a decent job earning £21k a year. I was there for about 18 months and have no savings from it.
I've recently started a new job where I am earning £35k + bonus but I'm just horrendous with money and savings etc. My parents haven ever been especially well off and have always lived paycheque to paycheque (we are by no means poor or anything just financially stupid I think) and I fear I am going the same way.
At the moment I pay my parents £250 a month to help out with food and bills. £25 goes into a share scheme which I will cash out next year for about £2k. My other monthly bills stack up to about £370 (travel, phone, car insurance etc.) I also have a credit card which I am probably to happy to use at times but I always pay it off at the end of the month so no real issue there. I also go out a lot so spend a lot on alcohol and food etc. And I'm a bit of a sneaker addict....
So I'm struggling to budget and save, which sounds stupid I know considering how much expendable cash I have but could do with your guys' help! Do I set up a savings account? I would rather have my money working for me surely? Is it worth putting money into start ups? Some people offer FX trading tips, how legit is that stuff? Stocks and shares ISAs? There's so much stuff out there and don't know how best to use it. Ideally I would like to move out by 23/24 and I don't want to rent, so I'd like to save/have around £30-50k over the next few years to buy a place (London is very expensive). Even if you just point me in the direction of a few articles I would be very grateful! Thank you Reddit fam!
