This is a rather unusual situation. My boss/owner is friends with the owner of the company that offered me the job. I have done some freelance work for them in the past thanks to my boss giving them my info. They liked my work and we have stayed in touch, discussing other projects I could freelance for them. Recently they asked if I would ever consider moving on and work for them. I couldn't give a straight yes/no answer, I just said that I'll always be willing to listen to new opportunities. Not sure if that was the right thing to say or not. We didn't discuss pay/benefits or anything specific. It was more of a "we'd like you to work here" type of conversation. I'm not sure how I should be approaching something like this. I do like my current company and I wasn't even looking for a new job, but if they offer more money it'd be silly to turn it down... How do I handle this? Do I tell my boss and hope they'd give me a raise? Do I interview and wait for the offer? There's probably a chance for this to get back to my boss if I interview there, though.
