A few weeks ago, I thought that I was spending too much time on Reddit, and it was getting in the way of my doing things that are more important. So I installed an extension on Chrome and an app on my phone that block Reddit after a certain amount of time. I set the initial limit to a total of 2 hours a day, and I'm down to one and a half hours a day, and I plan to continue to reduce that number. However, what I'm noticing is that I'm not using my freed up time the way I'd like it. Instead, I've replaced my time on Reddit with spending time on Facebook, Twitter, Netflix and YouTube. I don't like this at all.

I am a college student, so I spend the day either in class or working part time. When I am done with my day around 5 or 6, depending on homework levels, I want to pursue some of my personal goals. I am training for a half marathon, and I always get in my run, but apart from that, I don't work on them. I want to read, write, paint, draw, and play music, but instead I find myself sitting on the couch mindlessly watching YouTube scrolling through endless pages of the Internet. I dislike this and want it to stop. What steps can I take to break this habit?
