My girlfriend is starting out at 15$/hr for a junior producer position at a photography studio in new york, and while the pay is too little it's a good opportunity that she wants to pursue. They really want her on board, but refuse to budge on the pay right now. We're pretty sure they can afford to pay her more, but know that her options are limited and so aren't budging anywhere on negotiating a higher salary.
When negotiating a contract, how do you get inclusions of timelines for pay raises / promotions into the contract? Is there typically a timeline based on performance that forces the employer to promote after an amount of time? Can you get inflation matched raises and performance based raises written into the contract that come into effect after a period of time?
I'm new to this and would love answers. Thank you.
