My girlfriend and I (unmarried) are debating between a nicer newer apartment at $1800 dollars a month versus a much older apartment at $1000 a month next door. The more expensive apartment is nicer in every way, modern building, modern bathroom, bigger nicer kitchen, underground parking, etc, central heating and cooling, washer and dryer in unit versus the older apartment is from 1920 and doesn't have parking, a tiny kitchen, coin operated washer and dryer upstairs and is generally musty. Both are livable but therein lies my crisis. We both currently live in the more expensive one and can comfortably afford the cost, but the savings on the less comfortable one would come out to be around ~6000 a year after some expenses.

When given a choice that comes down to "niceness and comfort" how do you all put a price on that? Flip a coin?

Edit For those who asked my girlfriend and I combined make around 200k a year. I've been working for four years so I have savings and investments, she just started working and is paying down student debt. The 3000 dollars for her saved could help pay down the debt but at the rate she's paying it currently she won't hold it for long.

Thanks for the answers thus far, it's helping guide my thought process!
