Hi r/frugal,
Last year I bought a pair of hiking boots for a long backpacking trip/hike and they served me very well. I invested over $150 for a hardy pair that I thought would last me for years, but I hit an unexpected problem.
Because I walked so much during my trip (over 800 miles), the bottom of my boots have lost a some of their ridges. I walked so much that some areas on the bottom were worn almost flat! The rest of the shoe has no problems at all, but I wonder if the lost ridges would make the shoe ineffective if I were to use them again to make that same trip.
I purchased the boots in a foreign country, so I don't think I have any warranty I can depend on. I am considering buying a new pair of boots, but I would first like to know how feasible it would be to fix these shoes. If it's not feasible, I'm also curious to know what boots you all would recommend for a long-term investment.
Thanks for your help.
