Hey PF folks, could use some help from those who have gone through significant or total losses from fires/floods/natural disasters.

My grandmother's condominium complex caught last Friday and she (and everyone else there) lost EVERYTHING. Seriously the only thing she got out with was her pajamas. She lost her phone, clothes, computer, even her car.

Obviously we are having to work through a crap ton of insurance matters, but all in all she is doing okay and main point is she is safe. My parents have already done alot getting her a rental car, a phone, a place to stay, and insurance money should be coming within 120 days.

The main hurdle right now is she needs to get a new drivers license. The problem is that she has no forms of ID. Everything was lost in the fire.

So with that, what is her best/quickest path forward to gaining new forms of ID? We live in Texas and we've been trying to research what the DEP. Of motor vehicles says about all this, it sounds like they usually require some form of ID for her to even get a temporary license....it blows me away that there isn't some system in place with photographs or something that would allow her to quickly prove her identity and obtain new IDs...I've heard the possibility of them having fingerprints, is there any merit to this?

Thanks for any advice you can share!
