We just bought a house in (Fishtown) Philadelphia, PA. and have 30 days before our rental lease is up so we decided to do some work before moving in. We chose two projects.Expose the brick wall in living room, staircase and 2nd story.Add half bath on first floor.I wont talk much about the half bath since I didn't do much of the install myself. I have to finish it (more mud, sand and paint).Onto the wall.http://ift.tt/2mkH8vu are some things to think aboutYou NEED a SDS hammer drill. Dont try to be all hipster and finish it with just a hand chisel.Spend the time to tarp/tape really well. Even if it takes 2-3 hours, do it properly. You will thank yourself.SO... MUCH... TRASH. I had drywall on top of sheet rock so the amount of trash was x2. I had about 60 contractor bags filled. Some bags were only filled 10% but the plaster dust made it weight like 30lbsYour arms will fall off from using a wirebrushWe opted not to repoint the wall. We like the original look. If you have time, energy, skill or money you might want to do it.Expect to demo, clean, demo, clean. rinse and repeat for the entire projectYes I know my drywall staircase railing is ugly. We are demoing that this summer and replacing it with a custom metal railing. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2ngJsrE
