Hi all,

So my wife and I have been looking into getting her laser eye surgery. Everything was great so far in the process but when it came down to the financials I started getting a bit concerned. First of all, to get us in the door - the associate who has been working with my wife told her that the clinic offers their own I interest free financing with certain monthly terms. We thought this was too good to be true but we were intrigued as not having to apply for a new credit card is high on our list since we are saving up for a house. Well anyway, after her first appointment to see if her eyes would allow for the surgery, the associate proceeded to tell her that she would be scheduled for another appointment that ran another series of tests and then finally would ask for a first payment ($200) down for the first month of financing. Well when it came time to speak about the financial side of things, the lady started talking about the different credit cards they offer which all had different monthly terms depending on what you qualified for. My wife called me pissed and I told her to get the details on the cards because at this point her surgery is pretty important to me. I told her not to Dismiss the process due to money as I did not want that to be a factor, I advised that we would pay it in cash if need be (the surgery is around $4000).

The associate then tells my wife that she can check to see what she would qualify for without opening a card; wife would qualify for $2000. I then told my wife to check with my card info and she said the associate said we would qualify for the full amount under mine under 36 month financing. Mind you, the whole time I was at work but I trusted my wife and told her I did not want to open any cards yet until we knew that was our last resort. Before leaving my wife put a down payment to reserve her slot for the day of the surgery because the associate said we can finalize the financial side of things the day of prior to the surgery since I wasn't present Togo through with it. Well yesterday in the mail, I received a credit card from Wells Fargo for $4000. The unfortunate thing is that the card is only tied to that specific clinic. At first I was furious and my wife called the clinic first thing in the morning and told the woman that how can she open a credit card under my name without me being there?. The lady sounded distraught and wanted to speak to me to apologize but I told my wife that I did not want to talk to her yet. We left it off at i would call her early next week to speak with her about the matter. Now, after recalling the series of events and having had time to sit on it for a bit I told my wife that we should entertain the idea of it possibly having been done deliberately as the worker could potentially be doing this to other people and getting away with "it was just an accident." These clinics operate under referrals and not every person who wants the surgery can get it because their eyes have to meet certain restrictions. When a card is opened it's beneficial for them because it's only for their company and all but guarantees the business. Is there anything I can do about it? Given the information I provided - is this even worth pursuing? We might end up going through with the surgery but I would not like her to get away with opening a credit card without my authorization.
