Hello, I'm hoping I'm in the correct subreddit. If I'm not, please redirect me to the correct one! I read the rules and this seems like an appropriate question for this sub.
I recently got a collection notice in the mail and it was addressed to my maiden name. It says I owe a cable/internet company a little bit of money -- nothing extraordinary, but still annoying to find out nonetheless.
I did have an account with this ISP back in 2012 and I've checked my credit through credit karma and my two credit card companies (who offer credit checks for free). From those reports, I did not see anything about this unpaid amount.
I don't want to pay a collections agency for something I don't owe. Aside from the obvious next step of calling the collections agency and the cable/internet company, what else can I do? Thanks!
