I bought the Rugged Material leather messenger bag earlier this month (March 2017) for 295 USD. I am really enjoying it so far. For starters, it does not feel cheap, and it smells like leather (phew!) The outside has character, and I love looking at the leather each day to find new insights into the life of the cattle from which it came. It seems to be built sturdily, though I am continuing to assess that. Thus far, it has no problem carrying my macbook air, ipad, and 5 pound textbook. I don't have many complaints (I try to be picky about the products I buy.) However, I have suggestions:

  1. Why is the inside of the bag not completely finished? I think it would have been a nice added touch to finish the inside compartment completely with pigskin leather.

  2. I am a bit concerned about the placement of a seam right in the middle of the bottom such that the bottom is created by stitching the 2 side pieces. Wouldn't this create a weak spot that is not preferred? Wouldn't it be better to just make the side and bottom out of one whole piece? Here you can see what I mean: http://ift.tt/2nG1Abt I reached out to their customer service (which is fantastic so far, by the way), and here's what they said about that bottom seam: "The seam is a design choice, but also takes some relief off of the very bottom of the bag to reduce wear on the leather!" and "The seam is water resistant and is weight tested to withstand 200 lbs of pull, we're very confident in it's quality and it's included in the lifetime warranty. Although water is never a natural ally of leather, this bag is water resistant."

  3. I think the edges of the leather pieces could be improved by some furthur processing to make it smooth.

All in all a good bag so far. I look forward to a continuing review.
