Hello, so my boss let me know that after losing a big client, he is not going to be able to afford everyone's salaries. He wants to cut them in half and take away our benefits. I said that's ridiculous, I can't be expected to stick around for half pay and no health care. Unfortunate, but standard stuff.
He then suggested 2 workarounds. First he said he could officially lay me off so I can collect unemployment, and then he would start paying my wife an amount equal to half my pay, so that I net out the same.
The second option would be for me to collect unemployment and set up an llc with my wife to receive the other half of what I would be getting paid.
I have a feeling neither of these options is legal strictly speaking, but know that you guys would know best.
And yes, either way I'm looking for a new job. Already have 2 interviews set up this week.
