BEFORE / DURING / DETAIL / AFTER

Recently rewaxed my beloved rucksack for the third time. I use it every single day, and I bike to work so it needs to be weather resilient. I've tried many failing products and methods to get a good seal/waxing on my bag, so I wanted to share a new attempt that ended up working really well for me.

  1. Clean off your item of any hair, debris, etc. using a lint roller or a stiff brush. Cheap packing tape also works in a pinch.
  2. Use a rubber glove (or a ziploc bag over your hand works too!) to generously apply the wax to the canvas. Work in as much as the fabric will absorb.
  3. Set aside for 4-5 hours to soak in.
  4. Preheat oven to 200F.
  5. After your oven has reached 200F, turn off the heat. After a few minutes, place your canvas item on an unlined metal baking sheet and put in the oven. I left mine in for 3 minutes, then flipped the item, left in for another 3 minutes, and then removed the item to cool.
  6. Hang the item to cool and cure in a dry place.

Your item should now be uniformly waxed, sealed, and rather weatherproof.
