Hey everyone! I'm an 18 year old community college student. I also work 32 hours a week as a barista and make 8 dollars an hour. My tips usually aren't that great since it's a small neighborhood, but I can manage to make maybe an extra 30$ a week from them. So far I have about $1,500 accumulated in my savings account. I may actually have the chance to start work as an English tutor as well, so that could hopefully mean more money.

I currently live at home with my grandmother who is kind enough to not demand rent, even though I help her out with it sometimes. While she is kind, things aren't great at home. I always thought I wouldn't move out until I was 20 or something, but the way things have been going with my family and with other personal issues are making me realize that moving out could be a change that I need.

Last year was my first time getting a job along with my first time being in college, and I made some pretty dumb financial decisions (spending a lot in one go). Still, I think that I learned from my mistakes and am prepared to budget and monitor my income more closely. I'm still inexperienced in a lot of fields: I'm only just starting the process of filing my taxes and I find it confusing, I don't have a credit card and I don't know whether or not I need one, the only bill I've paid entirely by myself is my phone bill, etc.

I guess what I'm wondering, do you guys think that someone like me is prepared to start living on her own? If not, what are some steps I should start taking to make sure that I'm ready for something like this?
