Hello, please forgive any errors as I'm on mobile. Yes, that's right, I'm on a smart phone. I've finally decided to make a post not to criticize other people's choices, but to balance out the trend I've been seeing in this sub and offer a PSA to those who may need it.

I have a smartphone that can do everything for me. This has eliminated so much anxiety from my life because I can use the GPS and not get lost, I can calculate a tip even though I suck with percentages and I can see if my prescriptions are ready while I'm buying some household supplies off of Amazon.

I don't need a tablet because I have a larger smartphone (phablet if you will). I don't need an e-reader. I comfortably watch Hulu and Netflix on my phone. I don't have a laptop, I only travel with my phone. I have On The Go Storage (micro usb/Usb flash drive) to store my audio books and music. When I'm home I use my desktop for any gaming or Netflix watching, I don't have a TV.

I don't have any social media apps on my phone because I don't want to accept the permissions. I have a fully unlimited plan because I have always had anxiety about limits, no matter how well I stayed within them. Where am I going with this? My point is that to live simply you don't have to dumb down your technology. If you absolutely do not want any of the above features, love the aesthetic of a flip phone and can easily find one- great. But if you're actually struggling to find outdated technology, find yourself buying more and more items so you can get single process devices and blame media/social media/your phone for your attention span difficulties you may want to do some self analyzing.

It shouldn't be hard past a day or two to put down your phone and leave somewhere for a few hours. You shouldn't be so distracted by notifications that you absolutely cannot be in the same room as your phone and not answer them. It's a sign of something deeper to keep looking for something to fill the emptiness.

If for your own idea of simplicity you want to get a brick phone, an mp3 player, an e-reader, a laptop- whatever floats your boat then great. But if you're struggling with emotions of anxiety or emptiness the simplest solution may be to get some help.
