From what I understand, VIGRX contains only large-cap U.S. growth stocks while VTSMX contains small-, mid-, and large-cap U.S. growth and value stocks.
I would think that this would mean VTSMX is slightly less prone to risk but also at a slightly lower return, correct? Looking at the performance of each...
Fund | 1yr Avg Return | 5yr Avg Return | 10yr Avg Return | High Pre '08-'09 Crash | Low '08-'09 Crash | % Crash |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
VIGRX | 16.8% | 13.3% | 8.1% | $34.39 | $17.94 | 47.8% |
VTSMX | 21.6% | 13.8% | 7.1% | $37.44 | $17.91 | 52.2% |
It looks like VIGRX has out-performed VTSMX in the long-term both in return and having slightly lower risk, no? The only downside is it looks like VTSMX has been performing slightly better in recent years.
