I started at this company about 8 months ago. Ever since I started working here I was gunning for a team lead position and I had consitently been at the top of any measurable metric they had for the past 4-5 months.

At my 6 month mark, they offered me a great opportunity: Opening up an entirely new department of the company. They had been really impressed with my work and I had been talking with other execs of the company wanting to bring me to their teams. It's an excellent opportunity for sure, and it has a lot of potential.

Only problem is that it makes me miserable. I absolutely loved what I was doing in my old position - actually looking forward to come to work every day. Now, it takes every bit of effort inside me to get out of bed and come to work. I'm unhappy.

How can I tell my superiors that this new role isn't for me, but not jeopardize any other opportunities for advancement later on?
