I just want to say thanks to this sub for all the advice and stories of success that motivated me to emulate those stories.

To be honest I was synical and dismissive of people who "bragged" about finally finding an awesome job after years of flipping burgers or serving coffee and wiping out debt and building massive savings. But after a while I decided to really try and took success stories and advice in a different light.

I put myself into a pit many people are in on this sub. Im college educated a military vet and have worked for what Ive wanted since I could push a lawnmower but never really found a way to apply myself.

A year ago I was a bartender making about 25k a year and after taxes barely made rent and essentials and just stopped paying student loans since they were about a third of my income.

I decided to put some real work and review into my resume and started shoveling it out with applications. I was so into "Im never going to be anything better than this" that I passed up several interviews early on because I truely believed I couldnt perform and would just get fired once the employeer saw what I really was.

Then it happened, I choked that shit down and started interviewing and suprisingly landed a job fairly quickly. I landed a field technician posotiom that started 50k a year, 1k a month perdium I keep what I dont use with full dental, medical and vision not taken from my check and make time and a half for any days I work over 8 hours including travel time. Company car I can use for anything and several other perks. It still makes my head spin and still battle with my self loathing in feeling like I deserve it.

In one year I went from a job I could barely afford to live on and god forbid my car or body broke down, to netting 72k this year, paying down 7k in my 40k student debt saving 11k and havent dropped below 1k in my checking in 7 months. My credit score has risen from 550 to 648 as well.

This is my story and cant wait to see my finances and security grow even more the next year and hope I can see my student loans disappear in the next 3-4 years and look at owning a house in the next 5.

Thank you PF. If I hadent lurked here for as long as I have I would probably still be busting my ass for crumbs.

Anyone out there that is still struggling and as cliche as this sounds, keep at it, work hard and really try. We can all make it!

It is crazy what a year can do!
