I'm curious as I have already read a few articles on free tax services. I'm an accountant who does tax returns and I'm curious to know r/Frugal's thought process is. To give some background I am an accountant located in New Jersey and I would say at least 80% of the returns I do for couples/families are under 100K household income. We have had clients in previous years go to H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt or other tax service places but they usually end up paying an arm and a leg and will come back to us for their services since we are more than reasonable. I pose this to r/Frugal, what amount is acceptable to have a professional do your tax return? And do you apply this process to all accepts of your life? For example, if you were being sued would you provide your own legal counsel or would you seek it? How much is acceptable to pay a lawyer vs an accountant? I love this subreddit but I feel more and more of the posts are about how to be "cheap" vs "frugal", I would like to know the thought process for all of you.
