The mods at r/investing suggested I do a Mea Culpa on old r/stockaday posts, so let's go back to the 1st month, June 2016.
Here's the analysis:
Stock | Date | Price | Today | Change | Comment |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
$LUV | 17-Jun | 39.78 | 53.38 | 34% | We liked it, but thought Alaska and JetBlue might be better |
$CSCO | 18-Jun | 28.65 | 31.45 | 10% | Neutral. Called it a boring steady cashlow generator |
$AMD | 20-Jun | 5.26 | 13.29 | 153% | Neutral. Said was intrigued, but couldn't judge if there was a long-term story. |
$ADM | 21-Jun | 42.45 | 44.59 | 5% | Neutral. Though Wall Street was right to say "Hold". |
$BAC | 22-Jun | 13.62 | 22.9 | 68% | Agreed with Wall St's "Buy" though thought HSBC or Citi might be better play. |
$CRI | 23-Jun | 104.42 | 78.32 | -25% | We thought it might be the UA of kids. In a good way. Result :( |
$VOD | 24-Jun | 32.47 | 24.45 | -25% | Didn't like it. Ex-growth, excess divie, high valuation. |
$BMY | 27-Jun | 70.61 | 51.66 | -27% | I couldn't understand it's lofty valuation. What was a dinosaur priced like a darling? |
$FSLR | 28-Jun | 44.23 | 31.79 | -28% | Was tempted by price and industry. Was worried by earnings outlook. Fail on my part! |
$LLL | 29-Jun | 141.24 | 160.75 | 14% | Neutral. Couldn't see what catalyst could drive the price higher. |
$ATVI | 30-Jun | 38.02 | 40.05 | 5% | Liked it. Though it was seeing good growth potential. |
And?
- With LUV, BAC our positive thesis worked
- With CSCO, ADM our neutral / "ignore" was broadly correct
- With FSLR we'd have taken a bath. As business pressures have continued. And with $ATVI we'd have had dead money, despite fancying the stock.
- With AMD our neutral view was misplaced. It was the star of the requests. And LLL did respectably, despite our lack of interest.
- With CRI our positive slant was wrong, though our comment... it's like Under Armor turned out to be correct for the wrong reasons!
- Our dislike of VOD and BMY were warranted
Results were a mixed bag.
aside: I'll get to July's score card in a couple of days time
