I give my building manager a holiday tip, but don't tip him for regular service. However, I'm always at a loss with the various maintenance folks he sends for odd jobs, like when our fridge motor broke or we needed a door fixed.
In both cases I totally blanked and apologized to the guy, but they both said don't worry about it, they don't expect tips. I don't know if they were being nice or honest.
I have a guy coming today to fix our storm windows, and a painter coming on Monday. Both are hired and paid for by my apartment leasing company; I haven't hired anyone, I just told my building manager what needs to be done.
Should I tip these guys $10 or just be nice and offer them a water or rootbeer or regular beer?
