This is my first post; sorry for any formatting issues.

I've recently switched from Verizon Wireless to Ting. I was paying about $150 (before taxes) for 3 smart phone lines. We had the size "L" plan which had unlimited text, unlimited voice, and 6GB of data shared among 3 lines. I use about 3GB of data per month and the other two lines use <500MB per month (my parents don't use much data). So we basically were wasting and paying for 2.5GB of unused data every month. We hardly use voice and text <50 minutes/mo. and <100 messages/mo. (we have iPhones and use iMessage and Wechat mostly). It didn't make sense for me to pay ~$165/mo. for 3.5 GB of data, <50 minutes, and <100 text messages, so I researched alternatives and stumbled upon Ting.

Ting is pay-as-you-go cell phone service. It uses T-Mobile's network (for GSM phones) or Sprint's network (for CDMA phones). The great thing about Ting is that once you sign up, they send you both their GSM and CDMA sim cards, and you use both on the same account. T-Mobile's network is great for data in metropolitan areas. Sprint's network is great for voice in more rural areas (their voice coverage is almost as good as Verizon).

My average bill will be ~$65 before taxes. You can go to their page and estimate how much your monthly bill will be here: https://ting.com/rates . I had an early termination fee from Verizon but Ting helps pay 25% of the ETF, up to $75, per device. You can find out if switching to Ting now and paying the ETF would save you more money in the long run:

  2. Find out how soon it would take for you to break even from paying the ETF and switching to Ting: http://ift.tt/2lCOU5X

Once you decide to sign up for Ting: 1. Decide if you want to use your own device or buy refurbished or new from them. 2. Purchase their SIM card (which comes with both GSM and CDMA). 3. When the SIM cards arrive, port your current phone number to Ting or get a new number from them, and activate the SIM. 4. Insert the SIM into your device and start saving!

TLDR; I have unused data every month and it doesn't make sense to be paying for that. Ting is a pay-as-you-go service with cheap rates, great coverage, great customer service, and with lots of functionalities.
