I'm looking at booking a flight, and if I book one-way, the total cost is around 60% more than the total cost of a return ticket (basically sitting in a seat next to someone on that plane could mean paying 3 times more for that seat). The problem is, if I booked the return, it would have to be 'originating' from the real destination. So I would not be boarding the first flight. What is the likelihood that my return flight booking will be cancelled, upon failing to show up? Is this even legal for airlines to do this?
