I am going to be traveling soon and need a small backpack that can fit under the average airline seat (16"x20"x9") to replace my old messenger bag. I have been disliking the messenger bag style more and more recently as it really hurts my shoulder because I generally have my bag pretty packed.

I have been looking at the Incase EO travel backpack, ebags professional slim, timbuk2 uptown, and a few others. I can spend up to about $250, but only if the bag is basically perfect.

Pros: light, slim, non-expandable as items are stuffed in, dedicated compartment with pockets for a number of small items, easy access laptop compartment, ability to hold at least a change of clothes along with all my other items, water resistance.

Extras: side/hip pockets like the Incase Icon, ability to store/hide the backpack straps into a compartment/pouch, water bottle holder on outside, theft/knife resistant.
