  • I worked at a start-up in San Francisco as a UX designer
  • Salary was 120k
  • Been employed there for 3.5 years
  • The time for me to move on has come... Got a new job offer... Accepted
  • Requested to chat with my boss, went to his office, informed him of my two weeks notice and said I would fire off a formal letter shortly
  • Later in the day (towards 4pm), the boss and HR ask me to join them for a meeting. In a very angry tone, they say they are not pleased that I am leaving, and that today will be my last day (I guess they don't want to pay me for two more weeks)
  • I was given a cheque with an ADP printout of how the calculations were made. Since we just got paid last week, I received compensation for the days I worked this week, plus my unused vacation balance.

  • My question is: Are they by law required to pay me for those 2 weeks, or can they choose not to?
