My roommate smells like hot garbage, and i started to just avoid the living room when she was in there.
What I didn't realize, however, is that her stench has seeped deeply into my couch because she hangs out on it all day, every day. Several throw pillows are so odious that there is no hope for them, but I don't mind throwing those out because they are cheap. The couch however is a nice sectional pull-out and I really don't want to have to get rid of it, but the odor is noticeable when you sit on it and it irks me.
The pillow covers seem to be some sort of blend that you can neither wash nor dry clean...and judging by how it took 4 heavy wash cycles to get the stench off the blanket that I used to keep on the couch I highly doubt a gentle handwashing will do much good. I have sprayed the thing down with vinegar and febreeze many times, but it seems to only mask the smell for a little while. I took the pillowcases off and ran them in the dryer with no heat with a few dryer sheets, but again that only masked the smell temporarily.
Please help, I will try anything! I really like this couch.
