Hey guys, can you help me figure out what's going on here?
My job insurance allows for $1,500 in dental work per year, so towards the end of last year I went to my dentist and told them I wanted to use up all of the included coverage. We scheduled 3 appointments in a months time frame.
Each time I went in I made a point to ask the dentist to not go over the $1,500 that I was allowed. Each time he assured me we're not going over. He fixed a couple cavaties, did an extratraction, replaced old metal fillings with white ones, and did two cleanings with the hygienist. At the end of the last session he said we might have gone over a little today but not to worry about it, and a bill will be in the mail.
Now two months later I received a bill for double what my insurance covered, $3,000 worth of dental work! His office is insisting I will be responsible for half of it, which really is not in my budget and I cannot afford.
I'm glad he did the dental work, but I felt like a lot of it wasn't nessasry, and could have even waited a month untill my insurance coverage was renewed to cover it.
Is this ethical on his part? Is there anything I can do to resolve this? I just feel like I have been scammed for money I don't even have.
Thanks.
