Ok so I'm 20, in college, and make less than $10k a year. I made $7500 in 2016 to be exact. My dad insists that he's been paying my taxes because he helped me fill my W4 out the first time I did it since I knew nothing about taxes. But now I got my new W4 and W2 form back and he won't let me see the W2 cuz he says he's taking t to our accountant, and just claims that he's been paying tons of my taxes for me and that I owe him a lot of money. I make $9.75 wage at Starbucks, and live at home for college. I don't have a lot of money at all but other than staying at home I never ask my parents for money so I have to pay for everything myself.
I logged onto my work account and went to the W4 section and it says I'm "non exempt" since the day I was hired and for all of 2016. Does this mean I have been paying my taxes this whole time and my dad is just lying to me to make me pay him or is my dad right? I sound paranoid because my dad can be manipulative and pulls stuff like this every now and then. :/ So maybe I'm wrong, but I really just want to make sure cuz I'm going to hardcore struggle if I have to pay him for all of 2016's taxes he says he paid for me, up front. I can't afford it and will need to figure out ways to work long extra hours and stuff.
Any help would be appreciated! I'm willing to log in and look up anything else if anyone know something I don't. I work at Starbucks. My W4 info says my filing status is "Single", my allowances are "02" and my exempt status is "Non exempt". Any insight would be helpful because my dad is refusing to tell me this stuff.
Edit: I looked at my pay stubs online and it says that social security taxes, incomes taxes, and medicaid are all being reduced from my income. So my returns are mine that means because I've been been paying my own taxes?
