I recently "inherited" a 2016 Lexus CT 200h Hybrid Special Edition F Sport Series from my aunt who's leasing it for two years. She got it around a year ago, from the Santa Monica Dealership in Cali, but then had to go to Abu Dhabi for two years on contract for her job. She drove the car up here to Seattle around April of last year and told me to drive it. I'm paying around $350 a month for the lease, and insurance expired in December, so my parents have been searching for a new plan. Well turns out the cheapest rate they can find is around $400 a month. I don't have a car other than this one, and I NEED a car so I paid the $400 today, and it's in effect starting tomorrow. My parents both work full time jobs (they leave in the morning and normally get home at 10), and my car is the only way to get my brother and I to school, to drive us anywhere (his after school activities, to go grocery shopping, basically I need a car). But this is crazy, and I don't want to continue to pay $750 a month just to drive this car. We can't get rid of it though, and since my aunt told us to pay the lease, I don't want to just let it sit. While I'm grateful(?) she brought it up and paid for the insurance for the first year, I'm beginning to think it's unfair that she just pushed the car into our hands, and is making us pay for everything. I'm 18, a senior in high school, and I'm not sure what to do. I'm currently working my butt off to be able to afford the car. I'm not sure I can continue doing this. Is there any way I can get lower rates? Or even give the car back to the dealer? It's been a year:/ How high would the termination fee be for something like this?
