I'm tied by an entry level position to DTLA. I'd say the soonest I'd be comfortable moving on is in 6 months, realistically a year.
Transportation is absolutely killing me. Up until a month ago, I was paying $400/mo for a monthly train pass to OC. Now, I'm renting a guesthouse month to month $1200/mo- but driving into DT, I have to pay at least $8/day parking. I told myself I'd start using the bus- but I've found it's about $3.75 each way from my area, so almost same difference.
I looked at a studio for $1200 3 blocks from work- still floating around half my paycheck after deductions but much better commute, obviously. Except there's no parking. I haven't located any lots so far that will let you park a car 24/7 nearby- but I'm told they run $200/mo.
Even if I move to the suburbs, the Metro line in North Hollywood, for example, is increasingly $60/mo spaces. To ride a subway an hour.
Are there any other alternatives to this parking problem the big cities have?
