Background, I'm a consultant and usually expense food when I'm "client-side" -- so I get back what I spend, no net gain or loss.

Starting this weekend, however, I get a $60 "per diem". So $60 a day no matter if I spend $10 or $100 and I get to pocket any left over. I'm usually at the client 4 days per week so that's potentially an extra $240 (-food) per week I could earn.

So my question is how to minimize my food expenses while on the road. Usually the hotel room comes with a fridge and electric kettle, I travel by train so I can't keep my car stocked with non-perishables or anything like that, and I travel light (small suitcase, backpack).

Maybe this is a better question for /r/EatCheapAndHealthy or /r/consulting but this sub usually gives great advice, I'd be interested in what you all think.
