I've fallen in love with the "safe can openers" ( you know, the ones that uncrimp the can lid, instead of cutting through them ).

Sadly, in all the years I've been using them, I've not found any that last more than a year ( most fail sooner than that ). They all seem to "go loose" and won't uncrimp any more.

I am an older fellow and prefer to fix things that break, but to my examination, none of these seem "fixable".

So, my question is: In the event of a product not quite up to the "designed for life" expectation, should one buy products from a manufacturer with an excellent customer service / warranty policy and just return them for repair/replacement when they go bad?
