Hey everyone, long time lurker and semi regular poster here but I had to make a throwaway account for this one.

So the other night my live-in girlfriend of 2 years and I were talking about some budgeting issues we were having as she generally has very poor spending habits and doesn't plan out anything at all, leaving me to pay the majority of everything else. During this conversation it was revealed that she is currently carrying a certain store charge card with a $2,800 balance with 25% APR. 25%!!!

When I brought up my concerns that one, I had no idea that this was going on in the first place and two, that I had still been seeing packages get delivered from this store to the house she told me that I "shouldn't worry about it because she's paying double the minimum payment every month."

So this should only take about 20 years to pay off....

I also asked her why she continues to use this card and charge purchases there that she absolutely doesn't need and her response was, "well it's not even like real physical money anyways so it's no big deal." I nearly choked.

Can someone please help me break this down to her that carrying a $2,800 balance at 25% APR and that credit cards are in fact real money? This is alarming to say the least. I knew this stuff at 16 and she's in her late 20s... Realistically this post probably belongs in r/relationships just as much as it does here
