I had a work conference in Atlanta from January 10th-13th. My employer paid for my room, as well as a few other employees. If I wanted to stay another night, I had to pay out of pocket, which I ended up doing because I was too tired to drive home Friday. I check out on the 14th, pay my bill, and leave. I notice on my invoice that there is a list of items like parking, banquet hall, as well as a total charge to my employer's credit card with a total. My room (that I paid for with my own money) was separate though, so I figure, it's weird but okay. They charged my card and it went through that day and I didn't think anything else about it.

Last night, I notice a $2200 charge to my checking account. It's the total charge of the cost of the conference listed on that invoice from when I checked out. Banquet, parking, other employee's rooms, etc. I panic, call the hotel, front desk said the managers left for the day. I left messages, no call back. I call the front desk again, they tell me I have to speak to accounting, so I leave more messages. No call back. At work this morning, I call my supervisor, who's credit card this was all supposed to be charged to. She calls the hotel, and she said they were going to reverse the charge.

Mid-morning, I check my online banking and my account is now -5,000 because the hotel charged me the same amount again! Now I'm really fuming. I email my manager, who calls the hotel, and basically she can't get anyone on the phone. Finally, this afternoon, I get through and the accounting lady say's they cancelled the pending charges. Great, but they are still on my account.

I don't really know what I'm asking here. What if those pending charges go through? What do I do then? They said they were going to fax something to my credit union but nothing was rectified yet, and these people do not answer their phones. I'm just wondering if I should threaten small claims court to light a fire under them? Call the GM of the hotel? Anyone have any advice? I was very polite, yet persistent in calling them and explained to PLEASE let me know what is going on with this. Unfortunately, I'm working on building my credit and do not have credit cards, otherwise I would have used that to book the room. My credit union is basically offering no protection here. What do I do?
