I got sort of tired of hearing the "never buy new! cars lose 20-30% of their value when you drive off the lot!" refrain that seems to come up in nearly every r/pf car buying thread. I just wasn't seeing it for any of the models of cars I was researching to buy. Most of these models are reliable and seemed to depreciate in a very linear fashion.

So I put together as detailed an analysis as I could for a car we'll be buying in the next 6 months or so, a late model Subaru Outback 3.6 Limited. Certain of these factors (insurance / taxes) are obviously specific to my situation.

Anyway, I found it interesting and thought someone else might also. Purchase price was assumed at NADA retail value. Insurance info is based on actual quotes. Maintenance info was found online, but I've since forgotten the source.
