My wife's best friend is getting married in Jamaica in May.
The resort the couple will be staying at is Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall: All-Inclusive Jamaican Resort
The stay will be 6 nights.
To lower the flight and stay cost here is what we are thinking of doing.
- Get the Chase Sapphire Reserve card with 50,000 bonus points. That makes it 100,000 total points which translate to $1500 in travel points.
- Both of us will be getting this card making it $3000.
- Hotel stay for six nights is coming up to $2800.
- Flights will be partially covered by points and $450 out of pocket each.
Total expense (each): $450 (flight) + $450 (card annual fee) + $120 Venmo fees (explained below) = $1020
Venmo expense: The card gives us the 100K points on spending 4,000 dollars. We are planning to just transfer 4K to each other through Venmo. $120 in transaction fees but it's a quick way to spend 4K.
Notes:
- I suggested staying at a cheaper hotel. Since the marrying couple will be staying at Hyatt (all-inclusive), we will have to $100 entry fee per day to the resort.
- Going on a Jamaican vacation is not exactly Frugal, but I need to do it for her, so any tips/tricks veteran travelers have will be great!
